Twitter - Page Detail Tool - Main Body or Right Side

Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters including graphics, known as "tweets".   This Help Doc will explain how to obtain the HTML code from the Twitter website to embed a Twitter timeline.  Steps to create the tool to display the Twitter feed on your website will also be covered.  You must have a Twitter account set up prior to adding it to your webpage.

The above screen shot contains a Text/Graphic Editor displaying a Twitter embedded timeline.  Older tweets are visible using the scroll bar on the right.

This tool is interactive, tweets can be sent to the school's Twitter account via the message box at the bottom.

Go to twitter.com to sign in to an existing account or to set up a new one.

On the Twitter Home page, click on the gear icon in the top right, then choose Settings from the drop down menu.

Click on Widgets

Click Create new button

Configure a User Widget

Choose the options for your widget.  Make sure if you have more than one Domain, you list them all.  For example. www.yourschool.k12.wi.us and yourschool.k12.wi.us

Finally, click Create widget

A notification indicating your widget has been created appears at the top of the screen and the HTML code appears in the lower right corner.  

  1. Copy the code
  2. Save Changes

We're almost there..

Add a Text / Graphic Editor to the webpage where the Twitter timeline is to appear.

  1. Click Source in the top left corner of the Toolbox.
  2. Click to place the cursor inside the textbox and paste the HTML Code.
  3. Click Source again.

Scroll to the bottom and click Add.

Initially Tweets by @YourSchool will appear in the textbox.  After a few minutes, the actual Tweets will display.
